I have here for sale a book entitled JAMES GILMOUR AND HIS BOYS by Richard Lovett.  It is a first edition published by the Religious Tract Society, London in 1894.  It has 47 b/w in-text illustrations and a frontispiece portrait of Gilmour.

James Gilmour laboured heroically as a missionary from 1870 until his death at Tientsin in 1891.  In his service he partook of the hard life of the race among whom he ministered, spending long periods afield among them, sharing their black-skin tents and unpalatable food, and suffering the rigours of the bitterly cold winters of the Mongolian plain.  As a healer and a preacher he won great esteem among the native population and in his ministry made a marked impression in a land which was steeped in the superstitions of a degraded lamaism.

Bound in red cloth hardboards with a picture of Gilmour to the front cover.  Small picture and gilt lettering to the spine.  Chipped to head and tail.  Prize bookplate to the front endpaper.  A few tiny spots of foxing here and there.  Condition: very good.  288 pages, 19 x 13 cm.
