Royal Worcester Fruit Painted Plate

An early 20th century plate hand painted by Richard Sebright for Royal Worcester.  Sebright is considered the finest fruit painter at Worcester of this period and quite possibly the finest fruit painter of all time.  The central reserve features damsons, loganberries and blossoms and is signed R Sebright.  The border has jewelled gilt work and acanthus type scrolls with harebell detail over the cobalt blue ground.  To the reverse it has the Royal Worcester puce mark with date code for 1918 and it also has a pattern number W8860 hand scripted near the foot rim.

These plates were described as dessert plates, however given the nature of the decoration they were generally used just for display.

Condition

There are a couple of scratches to the damsons running horizontally, each approx. 8mm across.  They are quite light but reveal some white beneath.  These are visible in the close up images.  Otherwise the plate is very good.
