This lovely art studio plate is a Monroe Salt Works (Maine) stoneware design; although the plate is not marked Monroe Salt Works, it matches a mug of the same design that is marked. This Monroe Salt Works plate is 8.75” diameter with a realistic looking brown running rabbit. The plate is fired in earthenware colors with a blue rim.
Because the firing of this pottery is dynamic the surface of each piece has variables—no two pieces are ever the same. The rabbit art is a special ceramic transfer decal, which is printed in glaze rather than ink. After the transfer is applied, the piece is fired a second time. Firing a second time allows the glaze design to become one with the clay. Each piece has its own character as well as variations in color, texture and feel.
Monroe Salt Works pottery pieces are collectable as the studio has closed.
