Hunting Adventures in the West by Theodore Roosevelt published by G.P. Putnam's Sons, New York, 1927. First edition thus. Second printing. Hardcover. Illustrated.
This is a re-issue of two previously published Roosevelt works: Hunting Trips of a Ranchman (1885) & The Wilderness Hunter (1893).
Both works take place in one of Roosevelt’s favorites places, his Elkhorn ranch, located on the banks of the Little Missouri River in North Dakota. The location is now a part of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. During his very active presidency, Theodore Roosevelt established approximately 230 million acres of public lands between 1901 and 1909, including 150 national forests, the first 55 federal bird reservation and game preserves, 5 national parks, and the first 18 national monuments.
Hunting Trips of a Ranchman chronicles Roosevelt’s adventures tracking a twelve-hundred-pound grizzly bear in the pine forests of the Bighorn Mountains & The Wilderness Hunter is an account of big-game hunting in the United States, with chapters on hunting lore, hunting with hounds, hunting the grizzly, and hunting from the ranch.
Roosevelt’s exciting and descriptive recollections of numerous hunts in this book will thrill and delight both the hunting and nature aficionado.
