Description
This exceptional antique sterling silver cup with cover has a plain bell shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot and plain square base.
The lower portion of the body is encircled with chased layered acanthus and water leaf designs.
The upper portion of this antique silver cup is embellished with an exceptional applied band of scroll and palmette style foliate decoration, accented with bead ornamentation to the lower portion.
The upper rim is encompassed with a plain applied moulded border.
This exceptional example of antique silverware retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover ornamented with further chased layered leaf designs accented with an exceptional leaf decorated border to the rim.
The swept upper portion of the cover is embellished with further bead decoration,surmounted with the original hallmarked cast and applied foliate style finial.
This silver antique presentation cup is fitted with two impressive cast and applied narrow loop style handles accented with scrolling leaf ornamentation to the upper portion of the handpiece and enveloped with further elongated leaf designs to the lower portion.
The circular pedestal foot is encompassed with a tiered leaf decorated border.
The interior of the cup and cover retains the original gilding.
This exceptional cup and cover was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths C S Harris & Sons Ltd.

The applied, cast and chased decoration is all very sharp.
Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup and rim of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
