Back before modern ice makers, most homeowners would buy ice blocks from local distributors and store them in separate ice chests.  To make lugging these ice blocks suck less, LL Bean created the 'Ice Carrier' tote. Developed from heavy canvas, with riveted details designed to hold up to 500 lbs., these were also double layered to handle the puddles.  After only one season, the Ice Carrier was no longer available - until it reappeared in the 1965 Summer Catalog as the Boat & Tote, an equally sturdy little number that is a cult favorite and a mainstay in every New England home.

This vintage one is from late 90s or early 2000s - and in a very unique color combination!  Olive with red trim and black bottom is not one we see often. This is their medium size model, perfect for a farmers market run, an afternoon beach trip... or, a 5lb bag of ice.
