An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver cup and cover made by Omar Ramsden; an addition to our diverse presentation silverware collection

Description

This exceptional, fine and impressiveantique silver cup and cover has a tapering cylindrical bell shaped form onto a circular knopped pedestal and domed circular foot.

The tapering hallmarked surface of this George V cup has a planished finish and bears the contemporary engraved presentation inscription:

'I was wrought by Omar Ramsden for Consul General E.G Sahlin at the wish of the Council of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in London to mark their appreciation of his great services and as a gift on the 50th anniversary of his birthday Jan 9th MCMXXIX'

This impressive antique silver planished cup is fitted with a plain swept push fit cover surmounted with an impressive cast silver finial modelled in the form of the Paschal lamb, carrying St. George's flag*.

The circular pedestal features four impressive cast opposing scroll brackets, conjoining the varied emanating knops and the lower portion of the vessel.

The cast knopped pedestal surmounts an impressive circular domed base, encompassed with a cast bead and spindle decorated border the rim.

This exceptional antique silver planished cup was crafted by the collectable and renowned silversmith Omar Ramsden and bears the Latin engraving 'Omar Ramsden Me Fecit' - Omar Ramsden made me to the underside.

* This finial can be associated to the regimental badge for 'The Queen’s Royal Regiment (West Surrey), the 2nd of Foot'; with omittance of the lamb's halo. This was England's oldest infantry Regiment formed in 1661 and through time was amalgamated with others to form the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires).

Condition

This antique cup and cover is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the cup and part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the superior gauge of silver.
