Minor soiling of covers, hinges delicate, some browning of front and rear endpapers from newspaper articles. Bookplate on front pastedown of Peter Dumont Vroom, a relative of the New Jersey governor bearing the same name and a distant relative of Higbee.

First edition. This diary, edited and published by Higbee's great-granddaughter, Fanny Southard Hay Hall, records Higbee's journey across the Allegheny Mountains by canal boat to bring her niece to visit her father in Ohio. "Richmond Hill," the Higbee family mansion in Trenton, New Jersey, was built by Lucy Ann's father in 1800 and was one of the showpieces of the city. Interesting association copy.
