A tight and nice first edition of Gruber's last book -- boldly inscribed and signed by the author in green ink on front flyleaf (though recipient has forcefully scribbled out "To" and name in blue ballpoint): "With the best / wishes of / Frank Gruber." Gruber titles are rarely found signed, especially this final volume. Gruber (1904-69) was a prolific pulp fiction writer who penned a great many detective and Western novels.
