Title: Ten Years AND WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE: A survey of the publishing activities of The Limited Editions Club from October 1929 to October 1940
Publication: New York: The Limited Editions Club, [1940]

Description: Hardcover. 4to. Full tan calf with brown lettering. 82pp. Numerous illustrations. Very good. Calf spine and edges a bit rough and edgeworn, though internally tight and near fine.

Nice copy of one of the LEC's "special" publications" (not signed or numbered), with Paul Beaujon contributing "The Books as Printed Books," Edward Alden Jewell "The Books as Illustrated Books," John T. Winterich "The Books as Literature" and Philip Van Doren Stern "...And William Shakespeare." Delightful autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a Printed Document Signed from Stern, 1p, heavy stock buff 5" X 3" card, n.d. (postal cancellation from Brooklyn, NY, 17 October 1955). Recipient was Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar). Partly-printed form for meeting of the New York Civil War Round Table. Stern checks a box noting he will bring "no" guests and signs boldly in full. Fine. Stern (1900-84) was a popular and prolific author, editor, Lincoln and Civil War historian who penned the short story "The Greatest Gift" upon which the film "It's a Wonderful Life" is based. Not the usual black cloth edition, but the less-often-seen leatherbound. NEWMAN A-16.
