A Rare Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry Defence of Lucknow 1857 Sterling Silver Spoon made in Birmingham in 1930 by William James Dingley

Excellent condition with lovely clear hallmarks for 1930.

It features a detailed scene of the Lucknow Residency Building flying the British Flag and no fading to the detail of this or the blue enamel banner stating Defence of Lucknow 1857.

This was a defence action carried out by the 32nd (Cornwall) Regiment of Foot between July - November 1857 in which the regiment was awarded 4 Victoria Crosses.

Through various amalgamations when this spoon was presented the Regiment was called The Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, the DCLI.

The spoon is engraved as a prize to Sgt A. Taylor in 1933 for coming 1st and it is logical that this was a prize presented by the descendant regiment of the 32nd Foot who would still be proud of their battle honour.

Measuring just over 4 5/8 inches or 11.8 cm long.
