The study of cell and tissue biology has been reoriented in this textbook to eliminate unnecessary gross or regional anatomy and to blend the structural components with relevant biochemistry, physiology, endocrinology, immunology and cell biology. Clinical correlations are incorporated throughout the text; the theme being one of integration, with histology as one component in a network of interrelated disciplines ranging from molecular biology to the function of the whole organism. This textbook seeks to enable students to analyse, and thereby distinguish, cells and tissues under the microscope and to understand how their individual activities are integrated into multifunctional organs.
