This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In 1953, Wheaties issued a send-away premium set of something every kid was familiar with - license plates! Issued in a series of separate sets, the Wheaties premiums were made out of thin metal varying in size between 2 1/4" x 3 3/4" and 2 1/4" x 5". Every state in the country was repreaented, and then Wheaties continued the set with a number of plates depicting styles from Canada and around the world. Back in the days when most people didn't have TV's, much less the electronic media we have today, the license plates of different states had an aura of the exotic that no kid could resist. The set is avidly sought after by non-sport collectors. Here I have the plate representing the North West Territory, Canada. See scans for condition. Not too bad for an item that's over sixty years old. This would be a terrific addition to any collection!
