Late 70s Fender basses sometimes get a bad rap due to their weight and lack of quality control towards the end of the CBS era.

This bass is the exception that proves the rule! Somehow, this lightweight (9 lbs), resonant, lovely instrument slipped past the QC inspectors.

It is everything a vintage Fender bass should be.

It is finished in the extremely rare see-through blonde finish. It is not solid like Olympic white, which often fades to a cream color and it is not the natural wood color like the natural finish. It is a nice mix of the two with a creamy color where you can still see the patterned grain of the ash body. It is set up great with medium low action and no buzzes. It currently has an old set of flat wounds. We were going to change the strings, but these are clean and definitely add to the vibe of the instrument. The bass is all original. The pots date to the fourth week of January 1979, and the neck date also has a 1979 date. The only flaws on the bass are some discoloration here and there. Mostly that is due to being in the case. It is most noticeable on the back where there is a patch where the cream color has darkened a bit towards the center. Hopefully it will show up in the pictures because it is not extremely obvious.

The bass has the 70s P-bass nut width (1 3/5 in) which is a bit narrower than the chunky 60s neck, but wider than a Jazz bass neck. We think it's one of the most comfortable Fender bass necks made.

The frets are polished and all of the parts are extremely clean. The tuners look brand new and work perfectly. The truss rod adjustment was successful and the truss rod works fine. We've never had a late 70s P-bass that was this fun to play!

It includes the original bridge cover that still has the foam mutes on it. We took it off for the pictures, but it is shown in the case picture. It is missing the pickup cover. The case is not original, but dates from the era and is extremely heavy duty.

Whoever scoops this up will be very Happy.
