Sculpture "Enfants et tortue géante" bronze doré ancien circa 1870 par Louis Ernest Barrias (1841-1905)

Adorable petit bronze au sujet non moins adorable : deux enfants nus (ou "putti") jouant sur le dos d'une tortue géante...Un thème attendrissant et savamment exécuté où l'on perçoit la malice des deux bambins ainsi que leur impatience face à la lenteur de leur "véhicule" (!). Réalisé entièrement en bronze doré et signé du réputé Barbedienne pour la fonte (sous la tortue). L'objet est en bon état au vu de son âge et les légers défauts dans la patine sont moins visibles à la lumière naturelle qu'en photo. Bien sûr la sculpture est également signée Barrias sur l'arrière de la tortue.
Ernest Barrias est un sculpteur de la période Art Nouveau dont les oeuvres les plus connues sont extrêmement côtées de nos jours...Par exemple "La Nature se dévoilant à la Science" d'une taille moyenne (50/70 cm) se négocie actuellement aux alentours de 10000/15000 € et la "Jeune fille de Bou Saada" peut atteindre des niveaux...astronomiques (300000/40000 €) !!

Sculpture "Children and giant turtle" old gilded bronze circa 1870 by Louis Ernest Barrias (1841-1905)
Foundry Barbedienne
Adorable little bronze with a no less adorable subject: two naked children (or "putti") playing on the back of a giant turtle...A touching and cleverly executed theme where we perceive the mischief of the two toddlers as well as their impatience faced with the slowness of their “vehicle” (!). Made entirely of gilded bronze and signed by the renowned Barbedienne for the cast (under the turtle). The object is in good condition considering its age and the slight defects in the patina are less visible in natural light than in photos. Of course the sculpture is also signed Barrias on the back of the turtle.
Ernest Barrias is a sculptor from the Art Nouveau period whose best-known works are extremely popular today...For example "Nature revealing itself to Science" of a medium size (50/70 cm) is currently trading around €10,000/15,000 and the “Young Girl of Bou Saada” can reach...astronomical levels (€300,000/40,000)!!
