Very early copy of Stevenson's most enduring classic (save, maybe, Jekyll) illustrated by F.T. Merrill. Hardcover; large 12mo; pp 292. Half-bound in dark brown leather, marbled paper on sides. Some rubbing/wear to edges (pictured). Gilt titles on spine, with 7 gilt bands on spine. Small scuff to spine near back board. Top edge a little darkened. Marbled endpapers, small abrasion to ffep, somewhat creased and starting to tear. Small chip missing from bfep. Prev. owner's name on publisher's blank, and on dedication page. With four illustrations by Frank T. Merrill, as well as a map frontispiece w/ tissue guard. Interior age-toned but still bright and clean. The margins are perhaps a little tight in this copy, but the volume is a comfortable handheld size. Overall, a beautiful 19th century copy of this swashbuckling tale. VG
