John Pecham (1230-1292) was an early Franciscan friar who became Archbishop of Canterbury in England. His work 'Three Treatises on Poverty' was important in early Franciscan formation, when the emerging order, founded by St Francis of Assisi, began to be divided over strict observance of his rules on evangelical poverty versus the more lenient opinion than Franciscans be more engaged in the scholastic movement at the universities developing at the time.
