After purchasing a second hand 5 inch gauge Butch loco this boiler immediately failed its hydraulic test. Water was pouring from some of the firebox stays. It is of 'nutted-stay' construction I am told. Repairs have been attempted in the past and there is clear evidence of solder caulking. Although we never identified exactly where the leak was, having consulted a variety of more knowledgeable and experienced authorities, the consensus was that repairing the boiler was an uneconomic proposition. Hence I have replaced it with a new boiler on my loco. No doubt there is some value in the scrap copper and brass contained in it but I thought I would first offer it to anyone who might still see some value in it as a boiler. The price shown is a guesstimate, so be fair. It is not being offered as a working boiler. There are few parts in it but it might be considered for repair by someone with the skills, money and inclination. The photos also show the original brass wrapper which will be included.
