During the reign of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (AD 306–337), Christianity began to transition to the dominant religion of the Roman Empire. Eventually cross pendants became common belongings of the Roman people, although they did also exist before the conversion to Christianity. Most people could only afford them in lead and bronze.
