Rare authentic Turkmen Beshir hand made knotted rug.


Made in Turkmenistan, dates 1960- 1970C.


Turkmen nomads call this rug Beshir and the pattern ‘DARWAZA GOL’.

It is likely that it was made for the wedding or birth of child. This one served as a wall covering at some point, there are still little loops on the back of the rug to hook it on the wall.

Colours are rich red, orange, yellow, purple, green, black and white. The yarn is Saryja breed sheep wool, traditionally used by Turkmen nomads in rug making, tough and durable. The pile is short and dense, standing upright, fringes are beige / off white shade. There few signs of wear to the rug, all visible on the picture.

Measuring approximately 165 cm by 250cm.

Rug making in Turkmenistan has been long tradition and well recognised in the world. Often named Turkoman, Bokhara, Bukhara this rugs made by nomads from Central Asia. It would take about 15 weeks for an artisan rug maker to make this type of rug.

It comes from private collection and in clean authentic condition with little signs of use.
