This is 2 1/4 yards of real cotton batik (both sides are the same), measuring 40 inches wide. Red and gold labels using Google Translate: Istimewa is Malay for special. Batik Halus Soga Genes translates to something like Soga Genes fine batik. 

Piece also has a China Seas Inc. import and sample label saying: 1133 Broadway / New York, N.Y. 10010 / 212 OX 1-3240 / memo sample must be returned / in stock appx 20 yards @ $8. / No. biru (blue) brown patch piece / 100% cotton / 40" / 2 1/4 yard piece.

The hemmed cream edge is the width of the fabric on both ends of the length, not the selvage edge.  Colors include black, brown, blue, cream.
