Of all the love stories in mythology, none is more embraced than that of Psyche
and Cupid. She was his one true love, tho his mother Venus disapproved because
Psyche rivaled her beauty. But the heart wants what it wants, and when Psyche
was held captive by Zephyr, god of the west wind, Cupid sprang into action,
rescued his love and eventually convinced his mother to let them wed. This
cameo is an extremely rare depiction of the moment Cupid whisks his love
to safety. Both are shown in the full body, a rarity, with Psyche and her
butterfly wings (her symbol, as Psyche is Greek for butterfly) and Cupid
with his strong wings unfurled. Gorgeous detail from their clothing, to the block
wall Psyche sits on before they prepare to leave for their future together.
Exceptional colors of deep cocoa and snow. Cameo is bezel set in gold filled
mount with arched border. Here’s to love. One note: the line at
Psyche’s knee is a carving mark, not a crack or fissure.
