RARE 1964-71 Garcia Mitchell 300 DL GOLD Presentation Spinning Reel w/ Wood Case
These Mitchell 300 DL presentation reels are very hard to come by as they were a limited production run; only 4,000 were produced between 1964 and 1971.
This belonged to a neighbor's father who really didn't fish much. The reel is cosmetically and mechanically in near-mint condition. The gold nameplate on back of lower reel housing was never engraved so personalization will be an option for its new owner... I do not believe the reel was even mounted to a rod/reel seat. It still retains what I believe is its factory grease. All functions (bail spring, anti-reverse, clicker, drag, handle/rotor/spool rotation) operate smoothly.
*****As I typed in the 'condition-description' notes, the original handle was replaced with a different, Garcia Mitchell 300 handle as shown in photos and there is no storage canister for the spool.*****
The original wooden presentation case is in great shape. It features box end joinery on corners, brass latch and hinges. There is also a metal plate on top which was meant to have a name etched in it. It shows wear and would need to be buffed before engraving to be more presentable. There is tape residue on the wood around the plate. I believe a light sanding and application of Watco finishing oil would make the wood like new again but it looks pretty darn good in its current state.
