This the top portion, the finial for a processional cross used in ceremonies of the Coptic Christian rite, probably made in Egypt, of cast bronze in the lost wax style. It has the distinctive intricate interweaving cross patterns typical of ceremonial items used in the Coptic Catholic Church.

The cross is constructed with a base with opening of 1” diameter to receive a pole of wood or metal, so that may be carried in processions or used for blessing purposes.

The cross measures 10” long, 6” across at the widest, 1/8 to 1/4” thick metal. The the insert tube portion is 1 1/4” at its outside turned edge, and the front of the cross is distinguished from the back by slight perforations in the design.

Condition is graded as Fine: no cracks or dings, just the natural imperfections of lost wax castings, probably vintage in age, circa 1950s-60s or possibly older- a collectible and unusual cross of the Eastern Coptic Rite.
