I'm selling over 600 + kinds of seeds ( and also live plants during the warmer months ) so check my other auctions .

You are bidding on about 50 BLUE DUNE GRASS SEEDS ( Leymus arenarius) .

I'm also selling these as live plants during the summer . See my other items for sale .

This plant is an ornamental grass that spreads by underground stems (rhizomes). The growth habit is compact, even if it arches over when the stems become too long. It reaches 2 to 4 feet tall and spreads indefinitely. The leaves are 12 in. long and ½ in. wide, rough, and colored a deep bluish green. Flowering occurs in summer, and flowers are borne in dense spikes, which reach 5 to 7 in. long. Although the foliage is very attractive, the same cannot be said for the flowers.

Hardiness: Zones 3-9

Exposure: Full sun

Soil requirements: Well-drained soil

Moisture requirements: Very drought tolerant

Optimal growing conditions: it is soil-tolerant, but performs best in well-drained soil under full sun. It can develop in extremes of heat and cold, and is very drought resistant. The growth is fast, but it may become slow during hot summers.

Medicinal use :

None known

Edible parts :

Seed - cooked. It can be ground into a flour and used to make bread. A delicious taste but very fiddly to use, the seed is small and hard to extract. When cooked like rice, it can be used as a sweet or savoury dish. Mixed 50/50 with wheat flour it adds a richness to biscuits etc.

Other uses :

The leaves are used for making mats, rope, paper etc. The plants have a very extensive root system and so they are often planted near the coast in order to stabilize sand dunes. They can also be used as a ground cover for sandy open spaces but can be invasive.
