 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES vs Washington Redskins

Sunday, September 17, 1967 at Franklin Field, Philadelphia

Two years ago I purchased the entire vintage NFL film collection of Jerry Wolman, former NFL owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, 1963 thru 1967.   This very film is from Wolman’s personal collection!   I will be continuing to offer these on eBay in the coming months after cleaning and carefully inspecting each one, so check back from time to time to keep up with what I will be offering, as some will be one-of-a-kind!   To learn more about Wolman, read his life story in the book “The World’s Richest Man”.   Written by Joe and Richard Brokol as told by Wolman himself, it’s the story of Wolman, a self-made multi-multi millionaire who prized his NFL team ownership more than any of his other financial holdings.   The book covers his life from childhood in the coal-mining region of Pennsylvania to his purchase of the Eagles and then on to the shocking bankruptcy at the height of his financial career!

This is truly a “one-of-a-kind” NFL film, as it was never released in this form to the public or shown on television.   Because of his financial help in providing NFL Films’ very first office in downtown Philadelphia, Jerry would get films from Ed Sabol thru the years for his personal collection.   This film is a particularly good example of some of the unusual films Jerry obtained.   It’s a SILENT, camera original print in non-fade Ektachrome of the entire Eagles opening game of the 1967 season!   Sonny Jergensen and the Redskins furnish the opposition on a sunny early fall day at old Franklin Field.   The Eagles would finish second in the East in '67 to the Eastern Champion Cowboys.      The film is silent, camera original raw footage shot from the press box level camera.   There are some zoom shots and the game is shot in semi-slow motion.    Film shows every play of the game (no huddles), starts with the kickoff and ends with a shot of the final score on the old Franklin Field scoreboard.   What's more - to start the game, the Eagles kick off and the Redskins run it back all the way for a TD on the opening play of the season!   Wow, what a start!   Could not identify many Eagles except Norm Snead, rookie QB Benjy Dial, Tom Woodeschick, Izzy Lang, and kicker Sam Baker (no names on backs of jerseys in those days).   I'm more familiar with the Redskins, so was able to pick out QB Sonny Jergensen, Charlie Taylor, Bobby Mitchell, Jerry Smith, Sam Huff, Jim Ninowski, and kicker Charlie Gogolak.

Condition:   This film is in like-new condition, with only one splice in the entire film (between the halves), is clean and has NO scratches.   Film is over 1,500 feet long and with NICE color – very unusual.   Film has no titles, and starts with clear film until the camera starts rolling on the kickoff.   NO Vinegar!   Comes mounted on original 1,600-foot Bell & Howell black steel reel and in original matching Bell & Howell grayish-pink enamel-painted film can (see pictures).   Note original Eagles label is still on the can!    If you’re lookin’ for a nice print, here's one in outstanding condition!

Buyer pays shipping of only $8.50 on this item, which will be shipped out by Media Mail.   Remember to bookmark my eBay user ID “idot72” for future auctions of more vintage NFL films, especially the original Wolman films!   Have fun bidding!
