The material used, silver, is a precious metal that has long been valued for its beauty and durability. The body of the body of Karelian Birch Wood is beautifully decorated with Russian Imperial Emblem made of silver (pictures ##1, 6) - Gilded Two-Headed Eagle (also known as the Coat of Arms of Imperial Russia and the Romanov family crest) on relief. And, the entire body of the box is beautifully decorated with Russian State Emblems. There are gemstones on top of the box (7 total) at the end of corner silver decorations and below the enameled letters (pictures ##8, 9, 10).
The box stands on four ball shape legs with the following marks on each leg (pictures ##14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19) as follows: Russian Imperial mark, followed by maker marks and "84" - Russian silver standard.

Karelian Birch trees are not actual species. Most, in fact, are Silver Birch trees that grow in the Karelian region between Finland and Russia. With the resulting flame-like grain figure or "burl" a product of certain landscape features and unique soils only found this small geographic area.
