A lovely old rebound estimated 1891 edition of Donovan from Edna Lyall published by John W. Lovell Company. The book is undated but estimated 1890/1891 because of the publishing company which stopped publishing works under their specific name in the 1890s.

Very antique aesthetic look with the rebinding including gilt stamped decorative detail and 5 raised bands on the spine. The leather of the top of the spine is chipped/torn but the headband is still firmly attached to the binding. The front joint between the panel and the spine is a little weak so caution should be used opening and closing. The rear joint appears to be heading that same direction but isn't quite at that stage. There is heavy shelfwear around all the edges and is particularly heavy around the corners which are all rounded and torn. Internally, the front hinge is starting to split. The rear hinge is in good shape. No pages are missing or loose and they are clean, just browned with age. No previous owner signatures. Top edge of the pages is gilded. Fore and bottom edges are deeply browned which further lends to its antique-y look.
