This really neat, uncommon, pink, 20-Para, postal stationery card,(very clean w/little wear and tear around its edges) intended for use in Austrian Offices in the Ottoman Empire, was sent from Smyrna, Ottoman Empire, to Berlin, Germany, on Christmas Day, 1896, by a German sailor serving aboard the German warship, S.M.S. Moltke! The Moltke was a Bismarck-class corvette completed in 1878. The Moltke had been rushed to the eastern Mediterranean(specifically around Syria) in late September 1896 to protect German nationals and their interests in the area from some kind of serious civil unrest in that part of the Ottoman Empire! She would stay in that area until around the beginning of February 1897.
