An unusual stamp box which I believe is French and is black lacquered wood.  It has a hinged lid which is opened by a brass push button release.
On the top of the lid is an applied composition plaque which features a cherub or putti who is sitting in the front of a large basket of fruit.  Inside the box it has twin compartments.
The box is in very good condition and dates from late 19th century or early 20th century.
There is a stamp inside the box which is for a nomination of 30c and has been stamped but in very good condition.
The stamp dates from 1871-1880.
