TOM FORRESTALL: PAINTINGS, DRAWINGS, WRITINGS author TOM SMART.

This retrospective of Canadian painter Tom Forrestall tracks the development of his artwork from the time he entered Mount Allison University during the late 1950s to the present.

Explore the development of magic realism and the genesis of the artist’s shaped paintings; his use of egg tempera, its origins, limitations, and unique properties; his choice of subject matter and its relationship to defining a poetry of place; the artist’s spirituality as expressed directly and symbolically in the imagery; and the relationship of sketchbooks and personal written reflections to his paintings.

This is the first book to introduce the breadth and depth of Forrestall’s artwork to a wide audience. It makes a significant contribution to our understanding of Canadian art in the twentieth century.
