This neat, uncommon cover was sent on July 14, 1870-1872, from the U.S. Navy Paymaster's Office, Washington D.C., to Andover, Massachusetts to a Mrs. Edwin Stewart! She was the first wife of then-U.S. Navy Paymaster,  Edwin Stewart! This mail was almost certainly sent by him. Edwin Stewart would eventually reach the rank of Rear Admiral before retiring in 1901! He was also the U.S. Navy Paymaster General from 1890-1901!

To continue, the green, 3-Cent U.S., "Washington," definitive used to send the mail is in very fine condition! The fancy cancel from the D.C. P.O. is very fine! The CDS cancel(07/14/70-72) from the D.C. P.O. is quite nice, too!

Lastly, as for the envelope, it's in fine-very condition for something 152 or so years old! It's quite clean! There is a small tear at its bottom, right corner(at the back), caused when the envelope was first opened. The right edge is thus a bit jagged, too. The back flap is about 95% complete, though! Simply put, this is a nifty example of mail from U.S. Navy Paymaster, Edwin Stewart, to his dear wife!" Sadly, she would die in 1875.
