"W. Smith D(eput)y Dep(ositary)" endorsement T39 $100 1862 PF-5 Cr. 291 PMG About Uncirculated 53.
This note was issued to the field on June 24, 1862 by Walter Smith who variously served as Deputy Depositary, Cashier of the Mobile Savings Bank, and as Deputy Collector of Customs for the Port of Mobile.  The note shows only minor evidence of time in circulation and has only one Augusta red IP stamp paying interest to January 1, 1864. While Smith endorsements are not terribly rare, they are usually seen with Smith signing as Cashier.
