This is a slightly modified Toledo Metal Furniture (formerly UHL Art Steel Inc) adjustable height, swivel drafting stool. The modifications are that the seat and seat back are not original. But this is a wonderful thing! When the original parts proved too far damaged to salvage, its owner was able to obtain the beautiful curved plywood seat and back from a mid century chair made by Pagholz (West Germany). Pagholz is another company known for metal seating with beautiful curved plywood seats and backs. One of each was obtained and patterns were made from what remained of the original parts and a new seat and back were expertly crafted to replace the broken originals.

The steel frame seems to have been originally a tan color, but has been repainted in it's current olive hue, likely at the same time the seat and back were replaced. Additionally, due to the replacement seat, there are two fasteners that do not match the originals, although they look great in the seat. Also, there are two small (3/16”) holes for fasteners that went to the frame of the original Pagholz chair. Those holes currently have no fasteners in them. However, when using the chair those two things will be hidden under your legs while you swivel at your desk in a gorgeous "drafting stool" older than me, you, even my parents!

The seat adjustment works fine and has a height range from 16" to 24" (seat height). The back adjustment is also fully functional, with a range of approximately 4" on it's rails. So the chairs ultimate configuration is determined be the seat height and back rest height combined. Additionally the back rest does tilt in around 15° or so, but I have not measured the range. The swivel function of the seat can be locked with a threaded bolt to keep it in position. The feet look original, but since they aren't painted I cannot fully confirm. They have no surface protection, so I will happily add some nylon discs (as seen on school chairs and desks) or heavy felt or rubberized furniture foot/floor protectors. Which is something I will apply anyway whether the item sells or not. If you purchase or make an offer please indicate if you have a preference for the feet. You can request "as is", felt disc, stuff nylon disc, or rubberized non-skid discs. If I get lucky and find an adequately appropriate set of vintage casters, that could be an option also, but as of now I don't have a set that isn't contemporary.

In order to ship the item at a reasonable price for buyer and seller, I will separate the legs/base from the seat and back assembly. However, reassembly will be very simple and I will include details instructions and photos as well as contact information, should you require assistance upon arrival at its new home. Please remember, we both want your purchase to arrive undamaged, aside from its natural age blemishes. This item will be relatively expensive to ship. Bare with me; I assure you that your new one of a kind drafting stool will be packaged and shipped as efficiently as possible while not compromising security or adding any damage risk.

Please feel free to send any questions and/or request further images or details. Thanks for viewing and I hope you have just found your perfectly unique new in industrial drafting chair/stool!
