An original, scarce and attractive medal awarded to German WW1 Naval veterans by the German Naval Veterans Association during the Weimar Republic era. The medal is properly known as “Kriegsdenkmünze des Bundes Deutscher Marine Vereine” and was created in 1922.

Part of the inscription on the medal says “Für Tapferkeit im Weltkriege 1914-1918” which roughly translates as “For valour in the Great War”.

The application process for the medal was quite rigorous and had to be certified at various stages to ensure that the veteran applicant was entitled to the medal. The applicant also had to pay for the medal.

The medal is made from bronze and measures 38 mm in diameter. The ribbon is also original.

The medals were manufactured by the firm Carl Poellath of Schrobenhausen.
