"Rare" MicroChamps 1:64 McLaren-Ford MP4/8 Michael Andretti 1993.

From the "McLaren Collection", a "Rare", finely detailed MicroChamps 1:64 replica model McLaren-Ford MP4/8, as driven by Michael Andretti in thirteen grands prix in the 1993 Formula One season.

With Honda's withdrawal as engine suppliers from Formula One, Renault supplying Williams, and Benetton contracted to using the higher spec Ford HBA8 V8s, McLaren had to settle to using Ford HBD7, 3.5-litre V8 customer engines, until securing a supply of the higher-spec Fords after the British Grand Prix. However, thanks mainly to the skill of Ayrton Senna, McLaren managed to finish second in the Constructors' Championship, scoring 84 points.

Michael Andretti joined Formula One from CART, but struggled due to a number of factors. With restrictions on testing, Andretti never got to test a Formula One car in wet conditions, and a string of collisions meant he only completed three laps in his first three races. He also failed to get to grips with highly technical aspects such as traction control and active suspension. And by continuing to reside in the United States, he missed several days when he could have tested the car.
Andretti scored his first Formula One points in race five, with a 5th place finish in Spain, and added a sixth three races later in France. By mutual agreement, Andretti was released from his contract after the Italian Grand Prix where, ironically, he secured his first and only podium with a third place finish.
Totalling seven points, Michael Andretti finished eleventh in the drivers' table.
