Rare Limited Edition Bronze Mare and Foal sculpture by artist CATHERINE IRVING.

Solid Bronze Mare and Foal sculpture on a hardwood base.

The bronze statue/trophy is in excellent condition with "CTBA IRVING" signed on the base of the bronze Mare and Foal statue. The base is hardwood (possibly walnut) and is good condition with no cracks, breaks, or chips that I could see.

Measuring: 8" x 6" x 6" approximately. Weighs over 5 pounds.

The winning horse PRO OR CON was owned by Green Thumb Farm Stable Earl A. Scheib (famous auto painter) and the statue trophy was handed down to myself, his granddaughter.

Engraved plaque reads "CTBA STAKES, DEL MAR-JULY 25, 1980, WON BY PRO OR CON, OWNER GREEN THUMB FARM STABLE, PRESENTED BY CALIFORNIA THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS ASSOCIATION"

Catherine Irving info and bio: A lifelong fascination with animals combined with a love of horses is reflected in my art whether it is sculpture, painting, or drawing. My work is usually realistic with a great deal of attention paid to anatomical detail, form, and muscle structure. I strive for the unique beauty and spirit inherent in an individual animal. Sculpture provides me with the means to impart this vision three dimensionally. Clay and wax are my preferred media since they translate well into bronze. I also enjoy the more direct sculptural techniques possible with wood and stone. I welcome the challenges found in unusual or difficult projects and constantly look for ways to develop my skills as an artist.

I have exhibited nationally in shows including The American Academy of Equine Artist shows and exhibits (the 1999 juried show where my bronze, “Feeling Good” received The Founders Award and two prior years The Most Popular Sculpture Award, traveling exhibitions and the Pepper Tree Ranch Show in California). In 1977, The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association commissioned me to do their annual awards, which I did for 18 years. My work appears in many collections internationally (France, Japan, Ireland, England, and Australia) including those of Olympic gold medalist, Hilda Gurney and former President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.
