IRISH ANTIQUE SOLID SILVER MUSTARD SPOON.
HALLMARKED: DUBLIN 1809.
SILVERSMITH: SAMUEL NEVILLE.
This is a solid silver Irish mustard spoon in the
Georgian
Fiddle pattern. The hallmarking is very worn but the form of the Date Letter 'N' confirms this is the Date for Dublin 1809. The silversmith's mark is that for Samuel Neville. The handle is inscribed with a monogram 'EL'.
Please have a look at all of the photographs.
Dimensions:
Length - 10.6 cm. (4.2 inch.).
Width of bowl - 2.8 cm. (1.1 inch.).
Weight: 13.3 grams.
Marks: The handle is inscribed with a monogram 'EL'.
The reverse of the handle is stamped
with the silversmith's mark 'SN' for Samuel Neville, a respected member of Dublin's Council. Alongside is stamped 'N' which because of its form we believe is the Date Letter for Dublin 1809. To the left of these marks the hallmarking is totally worn apart from the letter 'A'.
We are at a loss to know what this 'A' represents so any explanation would be gratefully received!
Condition: The spoon is in excellent condition with no damage apart from age-wear particularly to the hallmarking. There is no repair or restoration.
