I have here for sale two books entitled IN DARKEST AFRICA or the Quest, Rescue and Retreat of Emin, Governor of Equatoria by Henry M Stanley, Vols I and II.  A first edition set published by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, London in 1890.  There are 38 plates, 2 of 4 maps (the Route Map of Emin Relief Expedition and the Map of the same thing from the River Congo to the Victoria Nyanza are both missing).  There are many other in-text b/w illustrations.

Dark green hardboards with gilt lettering to the spines.  Some rubbing and wear to hinges and to head and tail of the spines.  Front free endpaper on Vol I has some tears.  These are ex-library editions so there are gilt library references to the spines also, linen reinforced hinges, remnants of the library ticket pouch to the front endpapers, and red stamps to the title page and the plates.  Pages generally clean but one or two are foxed.  Condition: very good.  Vol I - 529 pages, Vol II - 472 pages.  22 x 15 cm.

We have over 2000 items in our Ebay shop on a wide range of subjects, so please feel free to have a browse and see if anything else takes your fancy.

Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK.  If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them into one parcel - so you save money. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then it will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
