Manufactured in cedar wood or similar medium-hard wood, the level has a brass-coloured metal plated top with a large spirit bubble and centring crossbar. There is a smaller vertical bubble in the side visible through a porthole. The base is strengthened by two metal plates at the corners. All metal plates are affixed by screws. Engraved to top metal plate 'G.T.L, British Made' and 'Warranted Correct'.

In reasonable condition: both spirit bubbles appear to be in working order; metal plating is marked and scuffed in parts; wooden body is marked and faded.
