Anonymous coinage under Maximinus II. ANTIOCH mint. 311-312 GENIO ANTIOCHENI, Tyche of Antioch seated facing on rocks, turreted and veiled, stalks of grain in right, river-god Orontes swimming below / APOLLONI SANCTO, Apollo standing left, patera in right, lyre in left. S in right field. Mintmark SMA. Van Heesch 3; Vagi 2954.

Previously thought to be connected with Maximinus' persecution of Christians, it has now been argued that these Civic issues were minted for use in the Festival of Apollo at Daphne, and the Olympic games in 312 AD. Regardless, they are a striking pagan issue in the context of rapidly growing Christianity.

NOTE: These coins are small.
