Royal Worcester hand painted bone china fruit plate, signed H. Ayrton, circa 1950.

Harry Ayrton (1905-1976) worked  at Royal Worcester from 1920 until his retirement in 1970, although he continued to paint part time until his death in 1976.  Ayrton was trained to paint in different subjects, but he was most skilled in fruit painting and that is where Royal Worcester used his talents to best advantage.

This plate is painted with peaches and cherries on a mossy bank, with a gilded gadroon border.
