STERLING SILVER  OVAL MUSTARD POT + BLUE GLASS LINER'

HALLMARK: BIRMINGHAM 1939 

 SILVERSMITH: WILLIAM HUTTON & SONS LTD.

This is a solid sterling silver oval shaped mustard pot and blue glass liner. The body is perforated with vertical slats and arrow-heads above and below the slats. The lid is plain and domed with a thumb lifter and a ribbed thumb rest for lifting the pot. Indented gap for a spoon opposite the handle. The body rests on 4 ball feet. A snug fitting blue glass liner to contain the mustard.

Body incl. rims (Length x width x height) - 5.4 x 3.9 x 3.4 cm. (2.1 x 1.5 x 1.3 inch.). 

Max. Length (Incl. handle) - approx. 7.2 cm. (2.8 inch.).

Max. height to top of lifting arm ( Incl. ball feet) - approx. 5.5 cm. (2.2 inch.).

Weight:

Silver - 34.2 grams.

Silver + Glass Liner - 79.5 grams.

Marks: Stamped to the underside with the hallmark comprising of the Lion Passant, Birmingham Anchor and the Date Letter 'P' for the Year 1939. Alongside is the complex  silversmith's mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd. copy shown here:


 The hinged lid is also hallmarked on the underside with the Lion Passant and the Date Letter 'P'.

Condition: Excellent. A couple of small knocks to the underside ring on which the ball feet are fixed but they do not interfere with the resting of the blue liner or the standing on the ball feet. (See Photos.).No repairs or restoration.
