I have here for sale TWO books containing four volumes of the book entitled THE FAMILY ECONOMIST; An Entertaining Companion for Town and Country New Illustrated Series published by Houlston and Wright, London, between 1857 and 1860.  First edition.  

The volume for 1856-57 includes Vol V issues for January, February, March, April and May 1856; and Vol VI issues for July, August, September, and October 1856; Vol VII issues for February, March, April, May and June 1857; and Vol VIII issues for July to December 1857.  

The Volume for 1858-59 includes Vol IX issues for January to December 1858 (published in 1859); and Vol X issues for January to December 1859 (published in 1860).   The books include stories, poetry, recipes, home tips, housekeeping, natural history, and articles on science, manufacturing, and medical issues, together with articles of interest from abroad.  There are pieces on Going to California; Adventures in Australia; New Homes in Canada; Dr Livingstone, His Life and Adventures; Delhi; and Manners and Morals in China.  The volumes include numerous b/w illustrations throughout.

Half bound burgundy leather on marbled hardboards.  Four raised bands on the spine with brown title and number blocks with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine.  Wear to the boards.  Foxing to endpapers and pages.  Name of previous owner on the front endpaper.  Pencil scribble to a few pages of the 1858-59 book.  Page 117-118 of the 1856-57 volume is missing, but all other pages are firm and the books are in good condition.  1856-57: 160, 128, 186, 186 pages.  1859-60: iv, 376, vii, 376 pages.  19 x 12.5 cm.

Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK.  If you buy more than one item then the postage cost falls for the second and further items as I will put them into one parcel - so you save money. We wrap and post the parcels on Monday and Tuesday - therefore if you pay before midday on Tuesday we will get it in the postal sacks on Tuesday night, and if it is after that time then it will go into the postal service on the following Monday.
