This stereo album from Music Guild Records (MS-124) features music written by Henry Purcell for The Indian Queen, edited by Anthony Bernard. Featured soloists include Patricia Clark and Cynthia Glover (soprano), Sylvia Rowlands (contralto), Bernard Baboulene and Duncan Robertson (tenor), John Whitworth (countertenor), Frederick Westcott (baritone), James Atkins and Richard Standen (bass), Michael Dobson (oboe), John Shinebourne (cello), and George Malcolm (harpsichord). They are accompanied by the London Chamber Singers and Orchestra, led by Lionel Bentley. The performance is conducted by Anthony Bernard. Album notes and provided lyrics are in English.

The outer sleeve bears two marks: one is a hole punched through the bottom right corner, and the other is a slight tear in the top left corner. Both have been patched with clear tape. The mentioned hole does not also go through the inner sleeve, as it seems to have been replaced with a Vanguard inner sleeve. The outer sleeve also shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back, partially covered by the aforementioned tape (Photo 2).

This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.

NOTES:
  • Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection.
