=====================
According to legend, Queen Margaret I (1353-1412) was very afraid of being poisoned, so she had 7 special servants who tasted the drinks before the royal meal. Since the royal person could not touch the glass with her lips from which the servants were already drinking, the court jeweler developed a special design glass consisting of 8 petals.
Almost every home of a real Dane has a similar “Margrethe cup”, since it is a kind of symbol of health and well-being, analogous to our horseshoe hanging above the door. They are used not only for drinking wine, but also as vases for napkins or small flowers.
