Add some exotic charm to your collection with this stunning hand-carved wooden and inlay jewelry box from India. With intricate detailing and skilled craftsmanship, this piece is sure to impress.
My Uncle was with the Army during World War II and in the Africa core--and either transfered to India or took his R&R there. He told me her purchased this fine wooden box there for his wife, my Aunt.
(Knowing my work as a jeweler, he gave it to me to add the white bird bone trim that had come off. I never got the job done and he passed away before I could complete the repair)
I can provide further explanation, giving you a glimpse into its rich history. This unique item is perfect for collectors of Indian culture and ethnically inspired pieces. It measures 6" X 4.25" X 2'5"
Handmade in India, this jewelry box is a true work of art. The image of the Taj Mahal is hand carved in, what I assume is teak. I say this because it has not chipped or cracked after all these years and the fine carving is clean and precise. A hard wood.
The trim around the central carving has a fine flower pattern in metal---perhaps silver---or nickel. The trim around the front also has inlay of metal and bone in a fine triangle pattern.
The floral carved panels on all lower sides are surrounded by fine metal beadwork.
After all of these years, only a very few of the metal beads are missing. A majority of the inlay and wood carving is in perfect condition.
The wood carvings are intact with no chipping or cracks. The interior floor is lined with blue velvet.
Unfortunately, the key to the lock is missing but I have been informed that the system is working and a key can be provided.
Add this historical piece to your collection today and enjoy the beauty it brings to your space.
