Canon Auto Zoom 1218 Super 8 Movie Camera.

The camera is cosmetically clean with very minor blemishes except for fine dents and scratches on the battery cover on the left side and above, as shown. Although there is a fine film on the inner lens, the through-the-lens viewfinder shows a clear image. This film may just slightly attenuate the light making the camera still usable. After inserting five AA batteries and two 625 button batteries, I found that the film advance and auto zoom appeared to work as it should, as shown in the crude, short video. When I first obtained the camera, it had two corroded button batteries installed. I cleaned the contacts as best I could. After inserting clean batteries (with one slightly weak), I found that there still was a contact problem. The on-camera battery tester (which works for both the button and AA batteries) ranged from dead button batteries to good button batteries as the batteries were manually rotated. When good contact was made, the needle in the viewfinder did appear to respond to light as the intensity changed. However, I have no idea how to use the resulting data on this type of camera. Someone with younger eyes and hands could probably clean these contacts better. The 5 AA battery contacts appeared clean, as shown. Although the viewfinder was quite clear, the split image did not appear to line up properly in focusing. I found it relatively easy to focus by viewing the glass away from the split image. The distant items in focus for some reason did not correspond to the distance markings on the barrel. This camera has not been tested with film since I don't have any. Thus, I have described this camera the best I can since I have no expertise with film movie cameras. I had to learn how to operate the camera from a You Tube Video. Therefore, it is being sold as is, as described. Batteries are not included.

Here is the not-so-fine print:

  • Buyer pays my actual cost of shipping or less which includes postage, a mandatory surcharge I have to pay, and the actual cost of a box if a free or recycled box is not available. There is no charge for tape, packing material, and a trip to a country post office. The invoiced shipping charge may be less than, but never more than, that listed in the shipping calculator. Partial refunds are frequently made.
  • Payment by PayPal is preferred.
  • eBay will automatically deduct sales tax from purchasers residing in NY and many other states. This is beyond control of the seller.
  • International Buyers please note:
    1. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
    2. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying.
    3. Since it is against the law to do so, items will not be marked as "gifts" on the appropriate customs forms.
  • If the winning bidder does not pay within 4 days (unless prior arrangements are made), eBay automatically opens an Unpaid Item Case against the bidder, allowing the bidder a few more days to pay. If payment is not received after that time, the sale is automatically canceled and eBay records an unpaid item on the bidder's account.
  • The stated refund policy will be either 30 days or no returns accepted. If the latter is the case, the seller will still accept refunds minus shipping for items returned within 7 days of receipt with the following conditions:
    1. I am notified first by email.
    2. The item is returned in the same condition as received--no scratches, wear, or other signs of use.
    3. Any shipping damage must be taken care of immediately through insurance.
    4. A factory sealed item (e.g., model kit) remains sealed (has not been opened).
    5. The item has not been switched. If so, it will not be returned.
  • Refunds will include shipping both ways if I can be convinced that I made a serious error in listing.
