Paris: Chez M. Rollin, 1857. First edition. Quarto, two volumes: xliv, 359, [1] p. with 75 engraved plates by Dardel depicting ancient Roman coins. In one-quarter red morocco over marbled paper bindings, with gilt and black stamping, four raised bands, and yellow endpapers. The plates are slightly foxed. Two bookplates, one to the verso of the front flyleaf and the other to the front pastedown, in the first volume. Some general dust staining to the top edges. The boards are scuffed along the extremities, with a crease to the bottom corner of the front panel.

 

Babelon 146: "Cohen never tried to be 'scientific' but, rather, simply precise, and it is thanks to this that he did such a great service to science, publishing valuable coin descriptions." An important work in ancient numismatics.
