Like others around the world, Peter Throckmorton was my hero. As a small boy, I read treasure island and every book on tall ships and tropical islends in the Library. In the 1970's I sailed to Florida as engineer on a schooner, then lived in Fort Lauderdale for 40 years . I began reading his books and articles. I was involved with Marine Archaeology and a group with a permit to explore an Historic wreck, but needed an archaeologist. I called Peter Throckmorton in Maine He agreed to come to Florida, we raised money to hire him and I picked him up at the airport. From the moment I met him we shared a rapport. My hero became my friend and mentor, as we worked together on the shipwreck. I took the course he taught in Marine Archaeology at Nova University, Dania Florida. I took in this old book I'd had for years, he signed it " For James Dean, from his friend and Advisor Peter Throckmorton", Dania 1985. Dania was the location of the University's Oceanographic locatiom.

The lasy comment "Tea Jaguar is as intrigueing as Peter Throckmorton.

I had researched local wrecks (see my ad, Shipwrecks of Broward), and found 3 ships were blown ashore in 1836, at New River inlet, now Dania. 2 were French, the Seminoles helped them. One was American; Indians attacked, as they were at WAR with the US. Peter discovered it was the ALNA from Maine. I contacted Joe Dan Osceola, a highly educated Seminole, and descendant of the famous Osceola, and took Peter to meet him . I planned to ask if the Seminoles would fund research and an excavation and exhibit that would give their side of the story. We were driving in my 1962 Jaguar Etype coupe. After the meeting, the Jaguar wouldn't Start. Peter and Joe Dan had to push me to jump start it. Peter commented that was the first time in history an Archaeologist and an Indian Chief had to push a Jaguar. That is the meaning of his commsnt, Yea Jaguar.

Peter kept an apartment in Fort Lauderdale, visited the Caribbean and worked Winters, went back to Maine Summers. In 1989, before going back to Maine, he signed it again; " For James Dean with Regards, Peter Throckmorton, Nova 1989" I have his memories so will pass on this book to a fellow admirer. The cover of this book has stains , but it is not the appearance I am offering. At Peter's Memorial, when we dedicated an 1800 anchor monument to him. on New River, Fort Lauserdale; a diplomat who spoke said; "Peter was equally at home in a Pub or a Palace" this book is like that.
